Pedal Steel Guitar Strings

Basic Truths: The best strings are those that give you the sound you prefer. They also must last a reasonable time and be reasonably priced. The only way to determine what you prefer is to try as many different brands as you can, then decide.

There are less than a dozen manufacturers of strings in the world. They all sell their strings to firms that place their own brand name on the wrapper. I buy from a manufacturer that I have stuck with for 40 years. The original firm was Squier Strings. When Fender (CBS Musical Instruments back then) bought out Squier, the old owner took his string-making expertise with him and eventually started up another string company. I stayed with him.

If you would like to try one of my strings (free), just let me know what gauge of unwound string you would like and I’ll send it to you. Better yet, buy a set and then decide if you get the sound you prefer.

I continue to stock strings for use on guitars I restored, but will sell them separately if anyone wants to buy them. They aren’t supplied in slick packaging. I keep them in bulk and in sealed plastic until someone orders a set. I then package them and write the gauges on the string wraps. What counts to me is whether you like them or not, and there is only one way for you to find out. …Tom
