Goodrich Volume Pedals

NOTE: I replace the stock pot in every pedal I sell with the higher quality Dunlop Type J Long-Life Pot.

Among steel guitarists, the name Goodrich has been synonymous with quality, durability and performance for over 40 years. The firm has devoted itself to manufacturing the finest products for steel guitarists. Throughout that time they have improved on their original volume pedal and have constantly introduced new products. The firm's "no-loss" (buffered) circuits are renowned for "cleaning" the sound (see the 10K and LDR-2 pedals) of any instrument with which used. . Let me identify and describe the fine products this firm produces and which I offer here. ...Tom

AC-1-L Volume Pedal - Model L-120 (lowboy)
Weight: 2 3/4 lbs. - Height: 2 1/4"
Color: Mottled Red Powder Coat
Price: $176.00

Made of heavy aluminum, this pedal is nearly indestructible. Its weight means it stays in place, having a substantial feel under your foot. Its treadle movement is quiet and smooth, with just the right travel to give you full-on and full-off volume with no slack at either end! It takes the same effort to turn the volume "on" as it does "off." When you stop, or take your foot off, the treadle remains exactly where you left it.

If you are long-legged, or a person who likes both legs to feel nearly the same height when you play, a "lowboy" Goodrich pedal is for you. Because a half-inch has been shaved off its height, the pedal weighs a little less than the Model 120 (also described). The aluminum cast pedal is powder coated to a mottled red color. Powder-coating is scratch and dent resistant. This pedal will retain its smart appearance for years to come.

Like all Goodrich pedals, this unit comes with two outputs so you can drive two amps with one volume pedal or drive two channels on one amp. It utilizes a long-life potentiometer (pot), giving you over 1,000 hours of guaranteed service. The treadle footrest is covered with a tough, non-slipping material.

AC-2-H Volume Pedal - Model 120 (standard height)
Weight: 3 lbs. - Height: 2 3/4"
Price: $164.00

If you like what you read about the Model L-120, but aren't interested in paying for the extra machining required for a lower-profile pedal (the L-120 is 1/2" lower), this pedal will perform identically to the L-120! The only difference is the height.

AC-3 Volume Pedal - Model L-10K (lowboy)
Weight: 2 3/4 lbs. - Height: 2 1/2"
Price $206.00

This pedal uses active impedance-matching "no-loss" circuitry. Electronic and other extraneous circuit noises are present throughout your equipment. The circuitry in this pedal removes the "hiss" and "muddiness" from your guitar's sound. What? You don't have a noise problem? No, not until you use this pedal and hear the difference. You will then discover the "mud" in your sound that was there all along. You had grown accustomed to it. Your friends have told you about their Goodrich "no-loss" pedals, but you thought it was hype. It wasn't! You just didn't realize that you need circuit-matching between your guitar and your amp. Just try one; that's all you'll need to do.

Like all Goodrich pedals, two outputs are provided. If you desire, you can send one signal through your effects loop and/or go directly into a recording board. All this added amplification can allow you to drive two amps with no loss in the signal to both. If you need to use a longer output cable, you will not experience any noticeable loss of volume.

A 9-volt battery powers this pedal, and it lasts 1,000 hours (maybe enough to get you through a practice session, huh?). If you want to really increase battery life, simply pull out the line-out cord when you finish playing. The pedal's dimensions are identical to the Model L-120.

AC-4 Volume Pedal - Model H-10-K
Price: $196.00

This pedal is identical to the L-10-K, but is the standard height: 2 3/4 inches. The price difference is the savings on the machine work needed to obtain the lowboy profile.

AC-5: Volume Pedal: Model LDR-2 (Photocell) $255.00
Weight: 3 lbs. - Height: 2 3/4"

For 40 years, Goodrich has focused on developing a worry-free volume pedal that performs to perfection. They accomplished their goal. This pedal may be the last one you will ever purchase. It is a pedal with no tonal change at any frequency or volume level, has an extremely consistent volume taper, has no internal moving parts, and is maintenance-and distortion-free. Instead of a narrative summary, I'll provide a listing of the pedal's remarkable attributes:

  • LED (Light Emitting Diode) and LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) technology. This is an attribute unique to the Goodrich LDR-2 pedal.
  • No pot!
  • No battery! AC powered.
  • No racks or pinions; thus, no moving internal parts!
  • Extremely quiet and free of distortion!
  • Selective inputs: plug into the normal or full frequency input, and, the impedance of the NORMAL input is adjustable.
  • 2 buffered outputs can drive 2 amps or 1 amp and a tuner
  • or mixing board, and with no losses or noise.
  • Adjustable gain.
  • Adjustable tensioning (maintains setting when your foot is removed from the pedal).
  • Consistent volume taper.
  • Fail-safe operation, using redundant light sources (if one of the 2 light sources fail, the remaining one takes over); and you can visually check the pedal to verify that both light sources are functioning.
  • The noiseless, no-loss, distortion-free operation requires more power than a battery can provide, which is why it is designed to use a plug-in power supply. And, most of the power supply components are kept inside the pedal so the cost of the external unit is low. In fact you may wish to carry a spare (this is the only part that might be damaged in use).
  • The pedal can be left plugged in at all times if desired.
  • More headroom is noticed when using this pedal.
  • No sound-clipping occurs, regardless of how hard a string is picked.
  • RF filtering means you will NOT hear cell phones or intercoms.

Electrical Characteristics:

  • Input Impedance: Normal input: 20K Ohms to 290K Ohms at 160 Hz variable.
  • Full Frequency Input: 410K Ohms at all frequencies.
  • Output Impedance: 100 Ohms for either amplified output.
  • This LDR-2 Pedal carries a full 1-year WARRANTY against manufacturing defects on parts and labor. If the unit becomes defective at any time during the warranty period, the problem will be corrected free of charge. The LDR-2 pedal is adaptable for World Wide electrical applications. The adapter is available for an additional $20.00.

AC-6 Volume Pedal Attachment Bracket (for Goodrich Pedals)
Price: $28.00

This simple bracket is anchored to your pedal bar (non-marring) and holds your volume pedal in one position. Thus, your pedal is always in the same position. This also means that you can move your steel and the pedal will move with it. Wow, a tag-along accessory!
