She Likes Circles
Thinner
Big orange bracelets circle her wrists
Big red rosettes on Kleenex she kissed
She curls her hair 'cause she like to have circles around
She goes to races and smiles in the stands
The horses urge forward she throws up her hands
She likes circles
They remind her that people return
She drinks coffee and thinks about him
Lets her lips travel round the cup rim
Stands at the snack bar and wonders what she has to learn
He blew smoke rings that circled her heart
She thought "this one will finish what he starts"
She likes circles
Even though he won't return
Still there at the races she smiles in the stands
The horses urge forward she throws up her hands
She still believes if she moves in a circle
Keeps her eyes open
Says what she means
Then eventually she will run with the horses
The dust will be rising
Like smoke at her heels
And gradually she will ascend
She likes circles
